Construction: Reflection

Park Filming

Before filming properly began we ran into trouble as we were unable to get a café which would allow us to film in which meant we had to think of alternative places to film our second scene, so we delayed filming the second scene while filming the first scene and looking for other places to film it. We eventually decided to film the scene 2 at a park and then began to narrow down the park to Valance park as it acted as a perfect set because it had a tree that could be climbed, benches from a distance and a pond which added to the aesthetic.

We filmed the introductory shot which was a pan of the park to set the scene and to signify it's the beginning of a new scene, this was quite difficult and required filming several times as the tripod didn't move very fluently causing the pan to be staggered. In the end we attempted a free hand pan which was the most successful due to how consistent the speed was and the smoothness of the shot. We edited out the first and last few seconds of the pan where the movement of the pan hadn't begun which ensured we weren't using up more time than needed.

We also filmed a POV shot from the of the main antagonist walk to the bench which also required a few takes due the speed of the walk, unnecessary movements combined with figuring out the best way to film it.  It was quite difficult to control the camera well while balancing, so we each attempted to see who had the most steady hand we even attempted using the tripod in the tree however, we realised that a POV shot wouldn't be completely steady as we were balancing Mika would also be balancing.

We were also able to film leading on from the POV shot where Conor is seen walking, which was edited to display continuity. A closer view of Conor was taken walking to the bench and sitting down and making a phone call where we did a medium close up and back to a full shot when I walked followed by a series of over the shoulder shots and close ups during the tense conversation. At this point we were pressed for time as the camera was running out of charge causing some clips to be rushed, especially when we were attempting some low angled shots. When it came to editing the park scene so far, we found we had a lot of gaps because we hadn't been able to film everything: Chloe in the tree which planned to do later because we had to make a scar in addition to not finishing all the filming we hoped to. We were able to edit the clips we had from Conor walking to the bench to the conversation to make them continuous, while roughly positioning the other clips we had. We weren't able to use the low angle shots because they didn't film well, but we hope to re-film it on our next filming day.
