Day 3 of filming the third scene

We started filming again today and everything was going very smoothly. Our positioning was correct and the continuity was good. It wasn’t until editing when we noticed a problem. We noticed that I had kept my student identification badge on whilst filming. This took the realism out of the scene once we noticed it, it meant that we had to re-film the scene one more time. However by now we know what direction our film is going in and we know what to do. We have learned from our mistakes and hopefully on our next day of filming we complete the final scene.

Day 2 of filming third scene

We went back to sharpen up the final scene today. However we turned up in different clothes. Therefore we could not sharpen up the product. It was either waste a lesson or use the time productively to create a better scene. We chose to create a better scene. However this did not really turn out as planned. This is because, we had issues with the lighting. The light which we are using had burned out. However as we were filming the scene over again we decided to use different lighting. However by the time we figured out the lighting which we wanted to use, other people came into the room which we were using saying they had booked the room. Therefore we had to leave and we left without filming anything.

Day 1 Third Scene filming

Today we began filming the final scene for our Media coursework. We were trying to film a dark scene. To make the scene seem darker we manipulated the lighting in hope to create a more dangerous atmosphere. However we soon realised that our original idea was going to be a lot harder to try and film than we originally had planned. This is because, the lighting kept on getting in the way. We kept getting shadows of the cameras reflection and shadows of myself and Jessica who weren’t supposed to be in the scene at that time. It soon became very frustrating and it took a long time to try and perfect. Therefore we had to try our best to make the acting quicker so we could fit as much as we could in before we had to vacate the areas or before the camera lost its charge. When we eventually got round to editing the scene we found out that we went over the designated time. Therefore we had to try and shorten the clips. However this was not really possible because, it would have ruined the continuity. So we decided to go back tomorrow and sharpen up the scene to a good standard.

Construction: Reflections- day 2

During todays filming process, we weren't meant to finish the scar for the main character who is called Mika, however the plan failed since the scar that we were trying to make wasn't working so we decided to not continue with the scar and decided to leave it and just continue without the scar.
so first of all, today, Me and Jessica started to continue from day one which was when we got the introduction to the area done, so me and Jessica today started to film the scene where we introduce Mika where she is in the bathroom getting ready to leave to go and find the people who mentally destroyed her. when we were filming my little sister was distracting us quite a bit which caused us to leave late to meet Conor at the park. After me and Jessica had finished the first scene, we left and went to go and meet Conor in the park to film the second scene.

When we arrived at the park we decided to film in front of a pond and did a pan to introduce the second scene where the new set would take place, after that we started to the scene where Mika is standing on a tree, in secret and is spying on those she knew who were the ones responsible for her attack in the past, afterwards, we told Conor to go on the opposite side of the pond to show that Mika was correct about her estimated location of the rapists location, so Jessica filmed a full shot of Conor walking across the other side. after that, we then caught medium shots of Mika taking photos of the rapist walking across the other side of the pond. after doing that, me and Jessica then moved onto the other side of the pond and then captured a full shot of Conor walking towards a bench and then sitting down. We then filmed him sitting there and then captured a few shots of him talking on the phone, the prop that he was using, afterwards we got a full shot of Jessica walking into the set and walking towards the rapist who is Conor, then we caught a medium of him and Jessica talking and then a full shot of Conor grabbing Jessica which led to the trigger of the flash back which would be the third scene.

When we were editing, we noticed that we would have to re-film, since some of the shots that we used needed to be changed to improve the continuity of the scene and to improve the quality of the film as well; when Jessica and Conor were talking we could've used POV shots or Medium Close  ups showing the viewers that they are working together and that they are talking to each other and that the facial expressions on the rapists face are not very pleasant indicating that he is angry.

This was a pan that I took of the place that we were filming at for the second set.

Park Filming

Before filming properly began we ran into trouble as we were unable to get a café which would allow us to film in which meant we had to think of alternative places to film our second scene, so we delayed filming the second scene while filming the first scene and looking for other places to film it. We eventually decided to film the scene 2 at a park and then began to narrow down the park to Valance park as it acted as a perfect set because it had a tree that could be climbed, benches from a distance and a pond which added to the aesthetic.

We filmed the introductory shot which was a pan of the park to set the scene and to signify it's the beginning of a new scene, this was quite difficult and required filming several times as the tripod didn't move very fluently causing the pan to be staggered. In the end we attempted a free hand pan which was the most successful due to how consistent the speed was and the smoothness of the shot. We edited out the first and last few seconds of the pan where the movement of the pan hadn't begun which ensured we weren't using up more time than needed.

We also filmed a POV shot from the of the main antagonist walk to the bench which also required a few takes due the speed of the walk, unnecessary movements combined with figuring out the best way to film it.  It was quite difficult to control the camera well while balancing, so we each attempted to see who had the most steady hand we even attempted using the tripod in the tree however, we realised that a POV shot wouldn't be completely steady as we were balancing Mika would also be balancing.

We were also able to film leading on from the POV shot where Conor is seen walking, which was edited to display continuity. A closer view of Conor was taken walking to the bench and sitting down and making a phone call where we did a medium close up and back to a full shot when I walked followed by a series of over the shoulder shots and close ups during the tense conversation. At this point we were pressed for time as the camera was running out of charge causing some clips to be rushed, especially when we were attempting some low angled shots. When it came to editing the park scene so far, we found we had a lot of gaps because we hadn't been able to film everything: Chloe in the tree which planned to do later because we had to make a scar in addition to not finishing all the filming we hoped to. We were able to edit the clips we had from Conor walking to the bench to the conversation to make them continuous, while roughly positioning the other clips we had. We weren't able to use the low angle shots because they didn't film well, but we hope to re-film it on our next filming day.
